Appearance: Brown, 8 point star-shaped pods with small seeds inside.
Aroma: Warm, spicy, anise-like.
Flavor: Sweet & spicy, and slightly bitter.
Use: Star anise is used in many East Asian dishes to impart a licoricy note to savory dishes. It is also a main component in Chinese Five Spice powder.
